We get a lot of questions from people who are interested getting a job in the healthcare field about what skills and qualities prospective medical job employers are seeking in new hires. With that in mind, we asked the experts and got some answers!

We recently sat down with Jennifer Caughlin, director of Talent Acquisition and Ashley Bose, assistant recruiter for Centura Health, to find out the inside scoop.

A few highlights from their sage advice?

Volunteer Experience: It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in the field for a while or if you are just starting out – volunteering at medical-related organizations (like assisted living centers, hospice, or a hospital) is a great addition to your resume and will put you ahead of others in the hiring manager’s eyes. Not only does it show you’re proactive in learning more, but it also shows your passion for working in the healthcare field.

Investment in Your Career: When looking for talent, recruiters and hiring managers for medical jobs want to invest in new employees who are interested in staying at their respective organization as a longer-term career move, not just a short-term job. Be clear in your intentions to learn and grow with a position, even if it’s entry-level, in order to get your foot in the door.

And that’s just the start. Check out the video and let us know what you think!
